Things About Me That Are True

1. I love cats. I talk about my cats like they were children. This is a fact of my life. I sing them little songs, I have a dozen names for them and they feel like family to me. I'm not going to apologize for that, nor am I going to think it's some sort of foolish immaturity. I love cats, always have, always will. My friends and co-workers call me the Cat Whisperer. They come to me for advice on their feline-related problems, because I generally know the answer. I aspire to be a Crazy Cat Lady. It's one of my life goals. I understand that not everyone loves cats the way I do. I don't judge you for that, but don't give me shit about the fact that I love them. Cat people, like cats themselves, do not give a fuck about your opinions.

2. I love sci-fi/fantasy. I prefer urban fantasy, but any variation of the genre works for me. Yes, I'm almost 40 and I geek out over B-grade sci-fi. I watch every scripted series Syfy comes out with, at least long enough to see if it's gonna work for me, and I have a tumblr so I can keep up with fandom. I like roleplaying, of the D&D kind. I play online and I'd love to do some tabletop, if I could find a local group. If that makes me terribly uncool, I just don't care. See above: cat people, no fucks given.

3. I am bisexual. Yes, we do exist. No, it's not a phase. I'm not suddenly gay when I'm with a woman, nor am I straight when I'm with a man. I'm bisexual, regardless of who I happen to be sleeping with. I prefer the term queer, but my orientation is definitely bisexual. Don't give me crap about making up my mind. I have made up my mind, you're the one whose confused.

4. I'm not sure I particularly like sex. Which is not to say I don't like it or don't feel desire, but it's not on my Top 10 list. Part of that is due to my chronic pain condition, thanks to which my body can go from feeling really good to horrible painful in the span of seconds. Partly it's due to the fact I'm recently out of a relationship where I was coerced and manipulated into sex even when I didn't want it or when I was in so much pain every touch made me want to cry. And partially it's due to the fact that, while occasionally really enjoyable, on the whole I've found sex to be rather disappointing. Have I just had a string of bad lovers? Maybe. Maybe they've all been selfish (the last one was, that's for damned sure) or maybe I'm just wired differently, I don't know.

5. It may literally be impossible to be more socially liberal than I am. Pick a social issue, I'm likely on the liberal side. (That's liberal as defined in American, not in the UK or Oz.) I'd be a socialist, but I see a need for a bit more government than they do. I just don't think the government should have any say in how you live your day-to-day life. Or as little as possible, anyway. I think taxes are good, although the way our system is currently set up is unfair. I think the job of the government is to provide for the public good and then get out of the way. So use our tax money for roads, schools, police and fire, a decent social security network, etc. Do not try to tell us who we can and cannot marry, do not try to infringe on bodily autonomy, stay out of religion, etc. And yeah, I don't apologize for it. I didn't come to these views overnight, I've thought them through and listened to my conscience and this is where I've landed. You may not agree with me and that's fine, just don't give me shit about it and I won't give you any.
